    The Fair Housing Act safeguards people from discrimination when they are renting or purchasing a home, getting a mortgage, looking for housing help, or engaging in other housing-related activities.

    The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in housing because of:

    - Race.
    - Color.
    - National Origin.
    - Religion.
    - Sex.
    - Familial Status.
    - Disability.
    What Is Prohibited?

    In the Sale and Rental of Housing:

    It is prohibited discrimination to take any of the following actions since of race, color, faith, sex, impairment, familial status, or nationwide origin:

    - Refuse to rent or sell housing.
    - Refuse to work out for housing.
    - Otherwise make housing unavailable.
    - Set different terms, conditions or opportunities for sale or leasing of a dwelling.
    - Provide an individual different housing services or centers.
    - Falsely deny that housing is offered for evaluation, sale or rental.
    - Make, print or release any notice, statement or advertisement with regard to the sale or rental of a house that shows any preference, limitation or discrimination.
    - Impose different sales rates or rental charges for the sale or leasing of a residence.
    - Use different qualification requirements or applications, or sale or rental requirements or procedures, such as income requirements, application requirements, application fees, credit analyses, sale or rental approval treatments or other requirements.
    - Evict an occupant or a renter's visitor.
    - Harass a person.
    - Fail or delay efficiency of maintenance or repair work.
    - Limit opportunities, services or facilities of a dwelling.
    - Discourage the purchase or leasing of a dwelling.
    - Assign an individual to a specific structure or neighborhood or area of a structure or community.
    - For earnings, encourage, or attempt to encourage, house owners to offer their homes by suggesting that individuals of a specific safeguarded characteristic will move into the area (blockbusting).
    - Refuse to supply or discriminate in the terms or conditions of house owners insurance coverage because of the race, color, faith, sex, impairment, familial status, or national origin of the owner and/or occupants of a home.
    - Deny access to or subscription in any several listing service or real estate brokers' organization.
    In Mortgage Lending:

    It is unlawful discrimination to take any of the following actions based upon race, color, faith, sex, impairment, familial status, or national origin:

    - Refuse to make a mortgage loan or supply other financial help for a house.
    - Refuse to provide info concerning loans.
    - Impose different terms or conditions on a loan, such as different rates of interest, points, or fees.
    - Discriminate in assessing a residence.
    - Condition the availability of a loan on an individual's response to harassment.
    - Refuse to buy a loan.
    Harassment:

    The Fair Housing Act makes it unlawful to bother individuals since of race, color, religious beliefs, sex, impairment, familial status, or national origin. To name a few things, this forbids sexual harassment.

    Retaliation and Other Prohibitions:

    It is unlawful discrimination to:

    - Threaten, coerce, frighten or disrupt anyone exercising a fair housing right or assisting others who work out the right.

    To submit a housing discrimination complaint these requirements should be met:

    - The residential or commercial property should be within the state of Texas.
    - The residential or commercial property owner, most of the times, must have more than 3 residential or commercial properties. This does not include multi-family residences.
