Artificial basic intelligence (AGI) is a kind of expert system (AI) that matches or exceeds human cognitive capabilities throughout a vast array of cognitive tasks. This contrasts with narrow AI, which is restricted to particular jobs. [1] Artificial superintelligence (ASI), on the other hand, describes AGI that significantly surpasses human cognitive capabilities. AGI is considered one of the definitions of strong AI.

Creating AGI is a main goal of AI research study and of business such as OpenAI [2] and Meta. [3] A 2020 survey recognized 72 active AGI research study and development jobs across 37 countries. [4]
The timeline for accomplishing AGI remains a subject of ongoing argument among researchers and experts. As of 2023, some argue that it may be possible in years or years
